SoWashCo Schools is offering a free four-week Targeted Services summer school program in July for students currently in grades K-7. This program is designed to provide students with tools, strategies and support that will boost academic skills and increase confidence.

Elementary (Grades K-4)
Students will participate in fun, engaging daily instruction that incorporates shared and independent reading, nonfiction research, cooperative math activities, STEM challengesand physical activity. Explicit and direct social-emotional skill instruction will focus on three outcomes: be strong, be kindand be well!

Eligibility
The following criteria are used to determine Targeted Services summer school eligibility:
- Achievement scores
- Measures of Academic Progress (MAP)
- Elementary literary assessment
- ACCESS for English Language Learners (EL)
- Chronic absenteeism (missing 10% or more of school days)
- Receiving EL services
- Needs additional social-emotional learning support
- Homelessness
- Student-specific circ*mstances, by exception
Meals
Breakfast and lunch will be available daily to all students attending summer school. Pricing, menus, allergens, and other information regarding Nutrition Services can be accessed at www.sowashco.org/services/nutrition.
Transportation
Transportation will be available for students who live more than one mile from their assigned summer school site.
Bus Stops
Bus stop information will be available in Campus Parent Portal by the end of June. Please note that summer bus stops may differ from the regular school year. Families must provide transportation if their child does not qualify for school bus transportation.

Middle School (Current Grades 5-7)
Students currently in grades 5-7 will participate in exciting thematic and project-based learning that prioritizes student voice and choice. Literacy instruction will incorporate nonfiction research, writingand independent reading for comprehension and enjoyment. Hands-on and activity-based mathematics lessons will focus on the efficient and flexible use of strategies and procedures for problem-solving, as well as fluency with basic facts. Elective classes involving STEM, computer science, physical activityand the arts will allow students to extend and apply their learning. Daily social-emotional skill instruction will emphasize engagement, belongingand well-being.

Eligibility
All students are invited to apply, however enrollment preference is given to students who would benefit most from extended time to:
- strengthen grade-level literacy and math skills and/or
- practice organizational skills and school routines and/or
- develop communication skills and positive relationships
If you are unsure if your child needs additional support in any of these areas you are encouraged to reach out to their school counselor.
