Norma Neal

June 3, 2024

Norma Neal age 66 of Centertown, passed away Saturday June 1, 2024, at her residence. She was born October 29, 1957, to her parents the late Hoyte Leon Neal and Evie Sue Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Landon Myers. Ms. Norma was a member of Bethlehem Community Chruch and was a homemaker. She is survived by daughter, Misty Myers (Bobby) of Centertown; 4 grandchildren, Courtney (Joshua) Baxter of Centertown, and Kayla Myers of Centertown, David Myers and Stephanie Hawkins; 4 great-grandchildren, Cora Winchester, Ariyah Winchester, Baeli Baxter, and Tydus Baxter; sisters, Betty Sue Neal of Smithville, Rebecca Crank of Smithville, Judy (Aron) Highsmith of Smithville and Sandy Swift of Canada; brothers, Leon Neal of Murfreesboro, Jeff Neal of MIchigan; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 3 PM Tuesday June 4, 2024, at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. David Lance officiating with burial to follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 3:00 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Neal family.


David Mike Gay Sr.

May 28, 2024

Mr. David Mike Gay Sr., age 74 of Smithville, passed away Sunday morning at Cookeville Regional Hospital. He was a retired mechanic with Nissan. He enjoyed water skiing, being on the lake and spending time with his Hidden Harbor friends.

David was born on July 19, 1949 in Alabama. He is preceded in death by his parents; Duncan and Louise Gay, wife; Patricia Gay, 1 brother; Earl Gay and 1 sister; Anita Gay.

The family has honored Mr. Gay’s request to be cremated. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Survivors include 1 son; David (Angie) Gay of Alexandria, 1 granddaughter, Michelle (Evan) Ward of Smithville, 2 sisters; Sylvia (Carl) Matten of Donelson and Sharon Gay of Nashville.

Gary E. Matthews

May 27, 2024

Mr. Gary E. Matthews, age 51 of Smithville, passed away Monday, May 27, 2024 at his residence. He was a Christian, a nurseryman, and a member of CMA.

Mr. Matthews was born on June 19, 1972 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to his father, the late William Edward Matthews and mother, Rita Davis Matthews.

Visitation with the Matthews family will be on Tuesday from 4pm – 8pm and on Wednesday from 10am until the time of service at 2:00pm at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Nathan Thomason will officiate and burial will follow in DeKalb Cemetery.

Mr. Gary was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Survivors include his children, Shea (Justin) Foster of Dowelltown, Arrion (Emily) Matthews of Smithville, and Arianna Matthews of Smithville; 4 grandchildren, Serenity Foster, Avery Martin, Olivia Matthews, and John William Matthews; mother, Rita Matthews of Smithville; 1 brother, Stacy (Anna) Matthews of Smithville; 1 sister, Tina (Darren) Templeton of Smithville; 4 nephews, Josh Puckett, Jacob Puckett, Jonathan Matthews, and Dillon Templeton; 1 niece, Tayza Breland; 2 great-nephews, Eli Puckett and Levi Puckett; and 2 great-nieces, Ava Puckett and Lainey Matthews.

Patricia “Grammy” Maxwell

Patricia “Grammy” Maxwell, 68 of Cookeville, formally of Smithville Tennessee went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 23, 2024, while being surrounded by her family.

Born Wednesday, June 22, 1955, in Carthage, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Claude Armistead and the late Ruby Smith Armistead.

Grammy’s life was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved to be with and surrounded by them all. She was a lifelong care giver. She helped raised numerous teenagers, including her own children, that worked at the Shoney’s in Cookeville where she managed for years. Grammy enjoyed reading and scrapbooking with her daughters. Life was simple, giving Grammy a book, a smoke and a co*ke made her a happy camper. She was so loved by all that knew her and will be greatly missed.

Grammy had a special place in her heart for Shana Judkins and Lynlee Judkins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends

Grammy was preceded in death by her first husband Bobby Frank Ramsey, second husband Freddy Wayne Maxwell, and siblings Claude Allen Armistead, James Armistead, Anna Hanco*ck, and Wayne Armistead.

A Funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Presley Funeral Home located at 695 Buffalo Valley Road Cookeville, Tennessee 38501 with the Bro. Myron Greer officiating. Interment will be in Smellage Cemetery, Silver Point, TN.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 24, 2024, from 5;00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Saturday from 11:00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM.

Helen Parker Lockhart Trusty

Helen Parker Lockhart Trusty, age 96 of Smithville, passed away at the Veterans Home in Murfreesboro on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. Helen was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her grandchildren immensely.

She was born on August 28, 1927 in Smithville, TN to her parents, the late John and Zona Lockhart. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Trusty; 4 brothers, Clarence Lockhart, Houston Lockhart, Jewel Lockhart, and Charlie Lockhart; and 1 sister, Olene Lockhart.

Visitation with the Trusty family will be on Friday from 10:00 am until the service at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bro. Nathan Thomason will officiate with burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Peggy Trusty of Smithville; 2 grandsons, David (Trina) Trusty, and Michael (Amanda) Trusty all of Smithville; 4 great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Trusty and Davin Trusty both of Watertown, Kylee Trusty, and Emily Trusty of Smithville; several nieces and nephews.

Randall R. Stanley

May 19, 2024

Randall R. Stanley age 59 of Smithville, passed away Friday night, May 17, 2024 at Summit Medical Center. He was born July 24, 1964 to his parents, the late Hiram and Ruth Ervin Stanley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brother, Rickey and Ronald Stanley. He was a Christian, worked as a Smithville Police Officer for over 20 years, Texas Boot and was a handyman. Randall was a guy that loved helping people. He is survived by 2 brother, Eddie (Lou Ella) Stanley and Michael (Mandy) Stanley both of Smithville; beloved cousin, Valerie (Chris) Pyles of Smithville; cousins, Genesis Pyles and Chevelle Lockwood; son, Ross Stanley of Smithville and daughter, Kayla Reagan of Lebanon and many family members and friends. Funeral services will be 2 PM Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Jeremy Poole officiating and burial will follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday 11:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is honored to care for the Stanley family.
