    Rotowire

Judge went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored during Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Reds.

Judge accounted for half of the Yankees' hits Tuesday, including a solo home run in the seventh inning off Sam Moll. The long ball was Judge's 32nd of the season, five more than any other player in baseball. After seeing his average drop from .311 to .267 last season, Judge is batting a league-leading .321 across 374 plate appearances in 2024.

  • Yankees' Luis Gil: Keeps tumbling

    Rotowire

Gil (9-4) took the loss Tuesday against Cincinnati, allowing four runs on two hits and three walks across four innings. He struck out three.

Gil surrendered at least four runs for a third straight start, something he'd done just once in his first 13 outings, continuing an unexpected freefall after an outstanding start to 2024. He was pulled after hitting a pair of batters and allowing a two-run home run to Will Benson in the fifth inning without recording an out. While Gil still owns a 3.41 ERA and a 102:48 K:BB across 89.2 innings, fantasy managers should proceed with caution, especially with a matchup against the Red Sox on the docket for Sunday.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Does some hitting Tuesday

    Rotowire

Stanton (hamstring) did some hitting Tuesday, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.

It would appear to be the first time he's done any hitting since he landed on the 10-day injured list a little over a week ago with a left hamstring strain. Stanton is moving in the right direction but is still expected to miss about four weeks of action.

  • Yankees' Austin Wells: Taking seat against RHP

    Rotowire

Wells is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against Cincinnati.

Despite right-hander Graham Ashcraft pitching for the Reds, the lefty-hitting Wells will be held out of the Yankees lineup. Instead, Jose Trevino will bat ninth and catch.

  • Yankees' Chase Hampton: Begins rehab assignment in FCL

    Rotowire

Hampton (shoulder) began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Monday as he continues to work his way back from a UCL sprain in his right elbow, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Back in the spring, Brendan Samson of MLB.com relayed that Hampton's placement on Double-A Somerset's injured list to begin the season was the result of shoulder discomfort. While it's possible that Hampton had been bothered by his shoulder at the time, Phillips' report suggests that it's the right-hander's elbow that had kept him from pitching in games until July. Hampton was unsurprisingly rusty Monday in his first outing in the FCL, striking out two batters but giving up one earned run on one hit and two walks over 1.1 innings. He'll likely make additional starts in the FCL or with Single-A Tampa before eventually slotting back into the Double-A rotation at some point after the All-Star break.

  • Yankees' JT Brubaker: Rehab moved to Double-A

    Rotowire

Brubaker (elbow) had his rehab assignment transferred from the Florida Complex League to Double-A Somerset on Sunday. He pitched three shutout innings for Somerset, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three batters.

This was Brubaker's third outing of his rehab assignment -- he previously pitched one game for Single-A Tampa and one game for the FCL Yankees. The right-hander looked good Sunday, throwing 30 of 47 pitches for strikes and yielding just one hit (a double). Brubaker appears to be building up his workload to take on a starting role, and he'll likely need a few more rehab outings before he's ready to be activated off the injured list. Once that happens, he may be optioned to Triple-A if there isn't a spot open in the big club's rotation.

  • Yankees' Aaron Judge: Blasts 31st homer

    Rotowire

Judge went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in an 8-1 win over the Blue Jays on Sunday.

Judge helped New York get off to a fast start with a 423-foot, two-run shot to center field in the first inning. He added a single later in the contest to notch his third straight multi-hit game, and the slugger has gone 7-for-12 with five RBI during that stretch. Judge had a monstrous June overall, slashing .409/.514/.864 with 11 home runs, 37 RBI, 25 runs and three stolen bases over 25 games.

  • Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Halts slump with two hits

    Rotowire

LeMahieu went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Sunday against the Blue Jays.

LeMahieu entered the game mired in a 6-for-42 (.143) slump but collected a couple of base hits, each of which brought in a run, while also adding just his second extra-base hit of the campaign. Despite being unable to find his footing at the plate, LeMahieu, who raised his season average to .188 thanks to Sunday's effort, has maintained a regular role in the Yankees' lineup since returning from the IL in late May due to a fractured foot.

  • Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Rounding into form

    Rotowire

Cole (1-1) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on three hits, a walk and two hit batsmen over five innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out six.

Cole continues to struggle with his command as he rounds into form following a two-plus month stint on the IL with a nerve irritation in his elbow, but Sunday's performance represented a major step in the right direction. After walking four and allowing four homers in his previous start, Cole allowed a single run in the third, then struck out three of the last six batters he faced as he sent the Blue Jays down in order in the fourth and fifth innings to close out his day. The five innings pitched, 90 pitches thrown, one run allowed and six strikeouts each represented a season-best total for Cole, who continues to inch his way back toward his normal workload. He's tentatively slated to toe the rubber again next weekend in an AL East showdown when the Yankees welcome the Red Sox to the Bronx.

  • Yankees' J.D. Davis: Late scratch Sunday

    Rotowire

Davis was scratched from Sunday's lineup against the Blue Jays.

The 31-year-old probably is perfectly healthy, but Juan Soto's (hand) late addition to the starting nine will bump Davis from the lineup. He's gone 1-for-9 with a double, two walks, an RBI and a run in three games since being acquired by the Yankees last weekend.

  • Yankees' Juan Soto: Surprise addition to lineup

    Rotowire

Soto (hand) will start in right field and bat second Sunday against the Blue Jays.

The 25-year-old was originally slated to sit Sunday and said he may undergo an MRI or CT scan Monday when the Yankees are back in New York, so his late addition to the lineup is a major surprise. It's unclear if Soto will still require any of the medical imaging, but he's apparently feeling well enough to play despite experiencing some pain and weakness in his bruised right hand Saturday.

  • Yankees' Jose Trevino: Losing work to Austin Wells

    Rotowire

Trevino is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.

He'll take a seat for the second day in a row and the third time in four games while Austin Wells earns another turn behind the plate. Trevino has gone just 3-for-26 at the dish over his last nine games, while Wells is holding down a .781 OPS in June. Manager Aaron Boone seems to be favoring the hotter bat in Wells for the moment.

  • Yankees' Josh Maciejewski: Joins big-league club

    Rotowire

The Yankees selected Maciejewski's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.

The left-hander was up in the big leagues for a few days in April but was quickly removed from the 40-man roster after one scoreless appearance. Maciejewski has a 4.28 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 27:9 K:BB across 27.1 innings at Triple-A this year and will now receive another look with the Yankees.

  • Yankees' Phil Bickford: Dropped from 40-man roster

    Rotowire

The Yankees designated Bickford for assignment Sunday.

New York selected Bickford's contract June 21, and he surrendered eight earned runs with a 4:1 K:BB over five innings. He was removed from the 40-man roster to make room for Josh Maciejewski, who was added to the big-league roster Sunday.
